Make The Frames your base for exploring the Riverland, sometimes it’s hard to leave the comfort and luxury of our riverside villas, but we encourage you to experience our culture. This is what we recommend you do with your valuable but possibly short time in the Riverland and hopefully it’s enough to tempt you back.
Day 1 Travel to The Frames (ex Adelaide)
From Adelaide, The Frames is a three hour drive a through landscape of rolling hills, vineyards and bushland.
Illalangi Gourmet Foods have been supplying the local community with a range of homemade from olive oil, to dukkah and range of sauces and condiments. Their Eat Local ethos is strong and we recommend picking up some cheese, dukkah and some relish to go with the complimentary tasting supplies in your villa.
Hidden amongst the vines at Glossop is a rustic cellar door producing a range of premium wines. 919 Wines produce a great range of organic wines that reflect the warm climate they are grown in. Throughout your tasting you can chat with the winemakers and learn more about the passion and vision behind the label while you are there.
After a few pit stops along the way, it’s time to arrive at The Frames where you will be welcomed and can begin to settle into your private riverside retreat. The options for afternoon relaxing are endless, you cold soak in the spa or simply rest on the balcony, and the choice is yours.
If you want to begin exploring the Murray River, a sunset Cruise in our 100 year old Gondola is the most relaxing way to do so. Sip on local sparkling wine and enjoy a local tasting plate while waterbirds settle to roost for the night.
Dining at the Frames is made fuss free with our Gourmet BBQ provisions where you can prepare a generous meal in your outdoor kitchen.
After a busy first day, it’s time to relax into your luxurious king sized bed, leave the curtains open to be greeted by a warm sunrise, or leave them closed to capture a sleep in that always evades us during daily life.
After the best sleep you’ve had in years, wake up with a morning swim in the heated pool followed by a cooked breakfast enjoyed on the balcony. Full breakfast provisions are provided from local eggs and bacon, fresh fruit, crusty bread and locally made condiments.
With a whole day ahead of you, it’s a great chance to really explore the Murray River with our Wetland and Wildlife Cruise. The half day river cruise in our custom boat will take you on a journey through intimate creeks and hopefully you’ll see a few of the locals along the way. By locals we mean kangaroos, emus and possibly a koala! A cooked lunch is provided and served in a secret location on the banks of the Murray River. A truly local experience!
Spend the afternoon discovering the emerging distilling scene of the Riverland with tours and tastings at the Twenty Third St Distillery and then around the corner at the St Agnes Brandy Distillery. Both distilleries share the stories of their heritage as you discover the inspiration behind the flavours of each brand.
Indulge for dinner tonight with your own In-villa chef who will prepare two or three courses in your villa. Our chef utilises a range of local and fresh produce and creates menus that showcases the flavours and diversity of the Riverland. You might even pick up a few cooking tips!
Take it slow today and explore on our complimentary power assisted bikes and ride through the quiet bush of nearby Paringa Paddock wetlands. Ride over the historic Paringa Bridge and venture into Renmark for a coffee at Arrosto Coffee before riding back to The Frames along the riverfront passed the Murray River Queen and PS Industry.
Enjoy a brew with a view at your lunch destination, the Woolshed Brewery. The historic woolshed, turned micro-brewery is situated on the banks of the Murray River and provides tours with the brewer where you can learn more about their process and inspiration. The brewery is a BYO food premises, so you can bring your own lunch provisions and use their complimentary BBQs to prepare a local feast.
Murray River Queen dinner and tasting
Venture out to experience Renmark by night with a twilight wine tasting on board the Murray River Queen. Showcasing 3 locally produced wines, the panoramic views pair perfectly with each drop. Take the short walk to their on board Thai restaurant and enjoy vibrant meals of traditional Thai and modern variations.
It’s time to say goodbye to your retreat, but hopefully we will see you again. Be sure to pick up some local (and edible) souvenirs on your way home at Almondco Almond Hut and Flavours of the Riverland in Barmera.
