Starting in Renmark, the guided walk officially begins with a creek cruise which gives a sense of complete seclusion. Meandering along the creeks to the starting point of the walk, you are greeted by Welcome Swallows, kangaroos and emus and begin to see for yourself how mighty the Murray River really is.
The river environment is ever changing and rich with Aboriginal Heritage. Ancient River Red gum forests are a highlight for many who take the journey, the sheer size and age of the still giants hard to fathom. Waterbirds flock together on the quiet backwaters, the perfect nesting and feeding grounds and Red and Grey Kangaroos are in abundance. Emus and their chicks can be seen in spring, and there are signs of Echidnas throughout the journey, your challenge being to spot one.
The Murray River Walk is like no other as each day your modern houseboat accommodation meets you at your next destination. Relaxing the muscles after walking all day is easy with hot showers, comfortable queen beds and a spa. Even sitting on the houseboat’s swim deck and dipping your feet into the cool waters of the river is very refreshing. Can you imagine a better way to rejuvenate for the following days walk?
Nightly, your guides prepare a nourishing three course dinner, created with premium local produce and native bush foods. Savour the flavours of Murray Cod with a lemon beurre blanc sauce or local Lamb and apricot tagine. All three courses are paired with award winning local wines and over the meal, the group reflects on the day gone and friendships grow.
Murray River Walk is more than just a walking experience, it is a combination of experiences that combine to create a journey where you might have a moment of self-discovery, or learn something new about our amazing country.
Walking season is from May through until October, taking advantage of the cooler but pleasantly sunny Riverland climate. The terrain is easy to moderate, covering 40kms over first the three days and being rewarded with a boat cruise and bus ride back to Renmark on day 4.
Stay at The Frames the night prior, or after your Murray River Walk to extend your luxury Murray River experience.
