There is a serenity you experience when kayaking or canoeing along the Murray River and creeks of the Woolenook Wetlands. A gentle pace where you are able to take in your surrounds, hear the calls of the myriad of birdlife and spot the native wildlife. A kangaroo nibbling in the scrub, an emu coming down to the water’s edge to take a drink. You can spend an hour or up to a full day exploring the fascinating natural environment.
The Woolenook Wetlands are part of the 9,000 square kilometre Riverland Biosphere Reserve. For those who prefer a guided tour, you can choose from Sunrise, Sunset, Moonlight, Day Tours or ask about tailoring your own. Guests staying at The Frames will receive a 10% discount off all tours.
The single kayaks are top quality and designed for stability and comfort. They have been fitted with rudders to improve tracking and reduce physical effort. PFDs (life jackets) and paddles are always included.
When going on a kayak tour it’s important to wear appropriate clothing- hat, sunglasses and a strap to keep them secure. Long-sleeved shirts are the best protection from sun, mosquitos and cold. Wear ¾ pants or trousers made from a stretchy material as these are the most comfortable when you get wet. Consider wearing water-shoes or sneakers without socks.
Things you will need to take – a bottle of drinking water, the tour operators can provide a dry bag for your camera, car keys and wallets if required. A towel which can double as sun protection for your legs. You may also like to take a waterproof camera if you have one.
